Do you believe that gang-related and violent crime in Gilroy have significantly increased in the last year?

■ My sources tell me there has been a decrease in gang activity in Gilroy. This has been as a result of many agencies and programs working together to deal with the many social inequities that contribute to gangs. It is important NOT to decrease funding for these programs.

■ No. I think when we start to get the nicer weather especially in the summer that is when we see an increase. And that is every year. I know in my neighborhood someone was trying to break into cars over the weekend.

■ Yes, and the gang members and their victims seem to be getting younger. Not a good sign for the future.

■ Yes, in some aspects I do. Kids are just not safe from weirdos. Other than that I don't see the gang writing as obvious as it used to be. The school doesn't seem to have as many fights as usual either. Maybe we are just more aware and careful than we used to be.
