After dealing with a handful of intoxicated individuals at the Garlic Festival Friday evening, police had their hands full later that night downtown.

Security personnel at Rio Nilo – the downtown bar near the corner of Monterey and Martin streets – detained Manolo Muniz Perez shortly after midnight for being on the cantina’s roof, according to police. After an officer showed up and took custody of the 35-year-old, who had several outstanding non-violent warrants, Perez allegedly spat in the face of a security guard as the officer was escorting him to a patrol car. Police arrested another man Monday night for public intoxication after he caused a disturbance and refused to leave the bar, according to police.

Within minutes of Perez’s alcohol-related arrest, at 12:24 a.m. Saturday, David Romero and Gavino Romero allegedly chased a victim down the downtown Gourmet Alley, near Sixth street, and police said David Romero threw a fist-sized piece of concrete at the victim that narrowly missed the latter’s head. The two were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in what appeared to be a gang-related incident, according to police.

The next day, as Saturday’s festival came to a close, Elisa Torres Fernandez did not make it that far.

After crossing Santa Teresa Boulevard on Miller Avenue with a few drinks allegedly in her system, Fernandez drove her vehicle into on-coming traffic and collided head on into another vehicle near Winged Foot Drive, but she did not stop there.

“The arrestee continued through a field and stopped after she collided into a tree,” reads the police report.

Fernandez was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing bodily injuries to her passenger, who was transported to the hospital for treatment.

And when it came to theft this weekend, someone snagged a cash box from a vendor booth at the festival that contained more than $2,000 in cash and handmade gold and silver rings worth another $350, according to police.

Another incident of ongoing theft took place this weekend at Gilroy Gardens. The family theme park reported that six juvenile employees allegedly stole cash while working at the parking toll and ticket sales booths, as well as the stroller and wheelchair rental windows. Park Spokesman Al Garcia did not immediately return a message for comment, so it was unclear how much the embezzlement amounted to or whether the juveniles had been dismissed.
