– Vanya Avilla has climbed as high as one can in Northern
California boys’ gymnastics. The 12-year-old Russian-born gymnast –
adopted son of Gilroy’s Kerry and David Avilla – placed first in
the All-Around at last Saturday’s NorCal Boys’ Gymnastics State
Championship.
Gilroy – Vanya Avilla has climbed as high as one can in Northern California boys’ gymnastics. The 12-year-old Russian-born gymnast – adopted son of Gilroy’s Kerry and David Avilla – placed first in the All-Around at last Saturday’s NorCal Boys’ Gymnastics State Championship.

At Saturday’s State Championship, Avilla was 2nd in the floor exercise (9.200), 3rd on the pommel horse (8.950), 3rd on the rings (9.150), 3rd in the vault (9.225), 2nd on the parallel bars (9.225). and 2nd on the high bar (8.825).

The young gymnast is coached by Olympic silver medallist and Gilroy resident Jinjing Zhang.
