Five team members honored with All-American recognition
From a squad with just seven members last year, to a program with three teams and 22 members, the Christopher High School cheerleaders continue to grow under the watchful eye of coach Jeannie Baumgartner.

Baumgartner and her crew made the most out of their time at UC Davis last weekend, capturing two Superior Awards at a Universal Cheerleader Association camp.

“I’m very proud of them,” Baumgartner said. “They worked really hard together.”

With 45 teams, including representatives from Washington and Nevada, the girls dazzled judges to gain Superior marks – the highest recognition – for their Performance Cheer, which includes cheer, dance and stunts, and for their Xtreme Routine, which calls for a pyramid formation.

Five members of the team tried out for All-American recognition and all five earned the distinction.

Marissa Gomez, Michelle Stroh, Alexis Moen, Olivia Maldonado and Allison Montonye are now eligible to perform in the London Parade in December.

According to the UCA website only 10 percent of each camp is honored with All-American status.

“I’m really proud of their accomplishments,” Baumgartner said.

The teams are also eligible to attend and perform in either the Capital One Bowl or the Pro Bowl.
