Concerned about your Sex Allegation coverage

Why did you publish that story about Sobrato High School football coach Jeff Patterson? He wasn’t arrested or charged. I think it is a little premature.

Red Phone:

Patterson, who also teaches math at Sobrato, still has not been arrested or charged, but the allegation – that he engaged in oral sex with a student in his car – was serious enough for the coach to take a leave of absence from the school. We think that it’s important to explain Patterson’s sudden absence from the team and the classroom and alert residents to what’s happening in their schools. As we continue to follow this story, we will give Patterson and his attorney every opportunity to tell their side of the story, and should the allegation prove baseless, we will report that in a prominent article. In the meantime, an update on the police investigation begins on A1.

Where’d Our Local Movie Listings go to?

I’m a subscriber and I’ve looked through the Saturday paper and I can’t find where the movie section is. I’m trying to find dates and times. Your index says Big Picture, page C7, but I’ll be darned if I can find it there.

Red Phone:

The Big Picture is actually the name of Martin Cheek’s column. We do publish movie reviews, but the Times doesn’t run movie listings.

Money should go to the downtown not elsewhere

I read in the last paper that Thinker Toys was closing downtown, and I was so disappointed to hear that. Downtown is not quite what it is supposed to be. And I know they are planning the 66-acre shopping center on 101 and Cochrane Road. I just want to know why city officials want to put money into that and not downtown to make it what it could be.

Red Phone:

Many downtown business owners agree. Dan Craig, executive director of the Morgan Hill Downtown Association, has asked city officials to consider making the incentive package for the new shopping center a model for stimulating growth downtown. However, Craig has also said he supports the shopping center. City leaders are hopeful that attracting a variety of new businesses to Morgan Hill will allow all parts of the city to prosper. For more on this subject, be sure to read the stories in today’s paper.
