Gilroy – The nations first and largest classroom refresher course for motorists 50 and older will be held Saturday. Participants will familiarize themselves with driver safety and new laws.

Three-year DMV certificates will be awarded for discounts on own auto insurance upon completion of this one-day program. There are no tests in the course. Class materials and certified instructor are provided by AARP.

There is a minimal DMV certificate fee.

Sons of Italy Barbecue

Gilroy – The Sons of Italy, Gilroy Lodge, is holding its annual barbecue Sunday, Aug. 19, at Christmas Hill Park. Festivities begin at noon with appetizers followed by a New York steak barbecue at 1pm, including salad, beans, garlic bread and drinks. Adults $15, children younger than 12 $7.50. Entertainment includes music, a raffle and pleasant company.

Democratic Club Meets

Gilroy – Join members of the South County Democratic Club for a day of food, friendship and education about local environmental issues at a fund-raiser from 11am to 3pm, Sunday, at San Martin Country Park, 13865 Monterey Road, San Martin.

Suggested donation is $20, children younger than 12 $5. They are asking that each member and or family attending bring a dessert with a great Democratic name. There will be a prize for the best name. They also will hold a silent auction.

Class of ’67 Reunion

Gilroy – The Gilroy High School class of 1967 will be celebrating a 40th reunion Sept. 15, at Las Animas Veterans Park. Free admission and barbecue.
