Prep Roundup: Dec. 12

Gilroy Mustangs

Loses don’t get much more heartbreaking than this.
The Christopher boys basketball team lost by a single point, 70-69, in double overtime to Leland in the opening round of the Los Gatos Tournament Wednesday in Los Gatos.
Shane Suttles led the team with a stellar 34 points. Evan Shapiro netted 14.
The Cougars (1-1) will continue play in the tournament at 4 p.m. today, taking on the winner of the Los Gatos-Del Mar game.
Mustangs top Overfelt in thriller
If for one night, the Gilroy boys basketball team got to feel like the pros — and the team certainly gave an exciting performance like them, too.
The Mustangs topped Overfelt 32-31 Wednesday at Oracle Arena in Oakland, the home of the Golden State Warriors.
Gilroy (3-2) will play its home opener at 7 p.m. Friday vs. Monterey.
BOYS SOCCER
Cougars lose late to Pioneer
Things looked promising for the Christopher boys soccer team, which with 20 minutes left had 1-0 lead.
But Pioneer didn’t let up, coming back to top the Cougars 2-1 Wednesday. Alejandro Robles scored Christopher’s lone goal, his first of the season.
The Cougars (1-2-1) were playing with seven players who are not at 100 percent, but will look to rebound at 3:30 p.m. today when they host Soledad.
