Gavilan Roundup: Feb.10

The rain turned Gavilan’s home game with West Hills into a road game Saturday and resulted in mixed results.
The Rams (2-4) split the double header with the hosts, dropping the first contest 5-1 and winning the second 3-2.
Gavilan jumped out to a 2-0 lead off a Steven Martinez single in the top of the first of Game 2. Martinez’s hit send Adam Kocina and Danny Guiterrez home.
Guiterrez and Kocina were in the mix again in the top of the fifth when a Guiterrez single was able to score Kocina for the winning run.
Matt Oxner (2-1) went the distance racking up 13 strikeouts. He gave up four hits, one earned run and two walks.
Scott Tall (0-1) was handed the loss in the first game for Gavilan, pitching six and a third innings while giving up 11 hits, five runs and two walks and notching a strike out.
Eric Guill-Perez drove in the lone Ram run with a double in the top of the seventh to send Andrew Bueno across the plate. Guill-Perez was 1 for 2 with an RBI and walk in that game. Bueno was 1 for 4 with a run.
De Anza drops Gavilan
Gavilan had three players in double digits, but still wasn’t able to get past De Anza.
Ramandeep Bassi posted 11 points while Wyatt Madrid and Kelli Goodman both scored 10 for the Rams in their 88-51 loss at De Anza Friday in Cupertino.
The loss marked the 16th straight for Gavilan.
The Rams (1-19, 0-9) have just three games left in the regular season. They will be back in action at 5 p.m. Friday to host Hartnell.
Rams fall to De Anza
The Gavilan women’s basketball team continued a five-game skid with a 63-56 loss at De Anza Friday.
The Rams (2-19, 1-8) fought back from a 14-point deficit at halftime to outscore the hosts by seven in the finals frames. Unfortunately for Gavilan, it wouldn’t be enough.
Tawne Haynish led the Rams with 18 points. She also had five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Felicia Lee-Cardenas had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in addition to four assists and two steals.
Gavilan has just three games left in the regular season, the next of which is a 7 p.m. contest against Hartnell Friday at home.
