Gavilan Roundup: Oct. 27

 

Samantha Nydam posted 17 kills against Canada College, but it wasn’t enough to lift Gavilan to a win. 
The Rams battled, but the Colts proved too much as they won 3-1. Gavilan won the first set 25-22, but lost the next three 27-25, 25-23, 28-26 in Redwood City. 
Ryan Asp and Alexia Balistreri added nine kills each while Savanna Hartman had six. Raelynn Heredia racked up 23 assists and 18 digs. Cheyanne Dela Merced had 18 assists for Gavilan. 
Daisy Valladares posted 23 digs and Ilenia Balistreri had five blocks. 
Gavilan also played West Valley Wednesday and won 3-1. 
The Rams won 25-15, 17-25, 25-22, 29-27 and were led offensively by Nydam with 10 kills and Asp with nine. Kendall Campbell added eight kills. 
Heredia had 20 assists and 18 digs, while Dela Merced had 17 assists. Ilenia Balistreri added five blocks. 
Gavilan (9-10 overall, 3-3 in conference) will be back on the court at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to host Foothill College.

De Anza tops Gavilan
De Anza proved too much for Gavilan Friday. 
The Dons posted three second half goals to cruise to a 4-0 win over the Rams in Cupertino. 
De Anza’s Juan Bugarin got the hosts on the board off a header to the far post in the 41st minute. Sean McLoughlin assisted on the goal. The Rams held the Dons to just one goal in the first half. 
DeAnza struck again in the 55th minute when Josue Mendoza scored off an assist from Rajaee Delane to put the Dons ahead 2-0. Ranier Plantinos then scored back to back goals in the 83rd and 85th minutes, the first coming off an assist from Jose Avalos, for the final. 
Stats for Gavilan weren’t available.
The Rams (2-9-3 overall, 1-5-1 in conference) will host City College of San Francisco at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
