Gavilan College officially announced its self-imposed sanctions stemming from accusations of recruiting and benefits violations against the football team that saw 17 players dismissed in August.
The Department of Kinesiology and Athletics named Erica Chapa the 2016-17 Gavilan College Student-Athlete of the Year Award.
Gavilan may have swept Hartnell, but the Rams needed to fight tooth and nail to advance in the CCCAA Northern California Regional playoffs.
Gavilan suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Los Medanos College 27-15 Saturday.
A year ago, David Kaplansky took over a Gavilan College men’s basketball program that had finished 1-22 the previous season. It’s apparent the former San Benito High coach has steered the Rams in the right direction.
