Despite Notre Dame using the tactic of stacking its side with eight defenders at all times, the Gilroy High girls soccer team and its potent offense could not be completely contained in a 3-0 Mustangs victory on Friday night in Gilroy.

Three Gilroy High girls wrestlers entered Day 1 of the third annual Central Coast Section Girls Championships and two are still alive in the competition, which began Friday at Oak Gorve High School in San Jose.

The Gilroy High girls basketball team has taken the must-win approach seriously. The Mustangs entered the week with a 2-5 record in the Tri-County Athletic League, looking in at the postseason from a distance. Wait just a minute.

But on Wednesday night, Baker joined 37 other GHS wrestling alumni for a walk down memory lane as the group was honored in a pre-dual meet ceremony on center mat at GHS.

After going into halftime with a slim three-point lead over Gilroy, San Benito head coach David Kaplansky knew his team needed to change their style of play.

Thirty-eight former Gilroy High wrestlers and coaches were honored prior to Wednesday night's Tri-County Athletic League dual meet against San Benito, and the Mustangs proceeded to treat the alumni to a glimpse of the now with a dominating 64-12 victory under the spotlight at GHS.

With five games to play in the Tri-County Athletic League regular season, the Gilroy High and San Benito girls varsity basketball teams were eyeing the postseason from different perspectives as the two took the floor against one another Tuesday.

The Gilroy High girls varsity soccer team took the pitch Monday afternoon for a nonleague match against Palo Alto that was originally scheduled for Jan. 3. The Vikings pocketed the game-winner in the in the 77th minute to down the Mustangs, 2-1.
