Olivia Echeverria gets a hug from 2012 Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen Julia Brewka after receiving the a scholarship award during the 34th Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Pageant Saturday at the Gavilan College Theater.

Gilroyan Olivia Echeverria, 22, has been crowned the 2013 Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen.

Around 200 people attended the pageant held at Gavilan College Theater on Saturday evening.

In addition to her crown, Echeverria received a $5,000 scholarship from Christopher Ranch and $1,000 from the Gilroy Garlic Festival. Echeverria will  take over the role of Garlic Festival Queen from last year’s winner, Julia Brewka. Echeverria’s new stately duties include representing the Garlic Festival at various pre-festival events and serving as a goodwill ambassador for Gilroy.

First runner-up was Melissa Wilder, 22, from Morgan Hill.

Second runner-up was Ashley Fellows, 21, from Gilroy.
