While Daughters of Charity Health System (DCHS) works diligently toward finding a buyer who will continue to operate its six hospitals, special interest groups directly or through their surrogates are putting their self-interests above all others.

Mt. Madonna YMCA set to open two new produce markets

The Mount Madonna YMCA will open two new produce markets in Morgan Hill and Gilroy, where all produce will be sold at wholesale prices that are up to 50 percent lower than those available elsewhere, according to an Aug. 27 announcement by the YMCA of Silicon Valley.

A Los Banos man and suspect in a pending stalking case led police officers in a cross-town pursuit Aug. 27 that ultimately ended in his arrest, according to Gilroy Police Department Sgt. Pedro Espinoza.

‘Water By The Spoonful’: Deep, intertwined theater

“Water By The Spoonful” is the second part of a trilogy by Quiara Alegria Hudes that won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for drama. It straddles and intertwines two story lines: one about a wounded Iraq war veteran struggling mentally with what happened during his tour of duty, the loss of a loved one and his interactions with family and drugs. The second thread of the plot involves a group of deeply flawed characters, each with a load of personal baggage, involved in an online chatroom where they try and help each other over the difficult road to staying off crack.

Prep Volleyball: Cougars out to prove dominance in their division

GILROY—The Christopher volleyball team made the move to the Monterey Bay League’s tough Gabilan Division last season, joining powerhouse teams such as Salinas, San Benito and Notre Dame. The perennial favorites took the top three spots, but the Cougars proved they deserved to be there, too and finished fourth in the division with a 14-18 overall record. Now that it has a year of experience under its belt, Christopher is looking to infiltrate the top three.
