Junior Little League: Gilroy reach Regional semis

VANCOUVER, WASH.—The Gilroy Junior All Stars rebounded from Friday’s loss to Hawaii with a vengeance. Gilroy outscored its weekend opponents 24-2 in the Western Regionals tournament as it continues its pursuit of a World Series berth.

Honor veterans by purchasing pavers

Thanks to the approval of the Gilroy City Council, the Veterans Memorial at Christmas Hill Park will be expanded. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6309 is now taking orders for commemorative bricks for the expansion project.

Get rid of your dead lawn

Is the grass greener on the other side? It shouldn’t be with the water restrictions we have all been given. Now well into summer, we have visual proof of what a serious California drought looks like in our own yards and neighborhoods. This is a hot topic. The Santa Clara Valley Water District reports that many homeowners are taking advantage of the rebate program to replace their lawns. I have heard the pros and mostly cons of replacing lawn with artificial turf. Recently, I saw a video of a company that uses a plant-based green dye to temporarily color your lawn until the rains come down, wash it away and bring back that luscious green we all dream about.

Convicted MH horse abuser agrees to pay $113k in restitution

A convicted Morgan Hill horse abuser agreed to pay more than $113,000 in restitution to nine animal rescue organizations that took in and cared for more than three dozen horses that were removed from his care at an Aug. 7 hearing at the South County Courthouse.
