MH Toastmasters win prizes

Morgan Hill – Two Morgan Hill Toastmasters members won second place trophies in the Area 1 and 2 speech contest Saturday in Monterey. The contest is the preliminary round for the Toastmasters International Speech Contest. Raju Vyas and Nancy Lowe, both of Morgan Hill, participated in the tournament sponsored by Toastmasters International, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping members develop speaking and leadership skills.

Vyas took second in the “Table Topics” contest where speakers must give a one- to two-minute impromptu speech. He and the other eight contestants were asked: “What would you do if one of your long lost family members was found frozen in a glacier?”

Lowe won a second place prize for her inspirational speech on what her mother has taught her over the years.

Meanwhile, the Morgan Hill Toastmasters club has begun a campaign to form sister clubs in Gilroy and in San Benito County. It is now seeking South Valley residents who are interested in creating their own Toastmaster clubs in these two communities.

The Morgan Hill Toastmasters meets Thursdays at 7:30am at the ComUnity Lending headquarters 610 Jarvis Drive, Suite 200, Morgan Hill.
