Motorcyclist injured in crash

Gilroy – A motorcyclist sustained major injuries after crashing into a sedan while trying to pass slower vehicles on Watsonville Road Friday afternoon.

Robert Guio, 20, of Morgan Hill, fractured both his right femur and forearm. He was flown to San Jose Valley Medical Center.

Guio was traveling southbound on a Suzuki GSX600 at about 50 to 55mph trying to overtake slower traffic.

According to California Highway Patrol officials, he braked when he saw Robert Meney, 42, of Morgan Hill, slowing to make a left turn onto Hummingbird Lane. Guio could not stop in time and struck the Saturn sedan.

The crash is under investigation, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Fire destroys clubhouse

Tres Pinos – Club members and visitors alike were devastated after the Bolado Golf Club Clubhouse burned to the ground late Saturday night, causing nearly $1 million in damages. The fire started about 2am, but Hollister and County Department of Forestry firefighters didn’t get called to the public golf course until almost an hour later, CDF Fire Captain Peter Antonell said. Antonell believes an electrical malfunction probably started the fire, but said he could not be certain.

Hollister firefighters were called in by CDF, Hollister Fire Chief Bill Garringer said.

The clubhouse was destroyed, said Don Hagins, a member of the club’s board of directors.
