“It was the perfect tune-up for us to get ready for TCAL,” said assistant coach Jeremy Dirks. “We couldn’t have asked for a better night. We couldn’t have drawn it up any better if we tried.”
And that’s the truth.
The only player on the team that didn’t score was sophomore standout Jason Conrad who only played a couple of minutes because he is experiencing sore knees from growing pains.
Things are really looking great for Gilroy basketball when its 6-8 sophomore center is on the verge of yet another growth spurt.
As for Tuesday’s contest Gilroy jumped out to an early lead and that allowed head coach Bud Ogden to pull all of his starters and play his second string for two-thirds of the game.
The leading scorers for the ‘Stangs were Ryan Chisolm with 15 points and 10 rebounds followed by Frankie Tomasetti who dropped in 11 points, grabbed four boards and dished off for three assists. Tomasetti also finished off the game in dramatic fashion with a monster dunk.
Two other big contributors were Dominik Wilkins with four assists and four steals and Jeremy Teschera with four steals, two assist and eight points.
The Gilroy Mustangs will now turn their attention to Tri-County Athletic League play and they open on Thursday night against archrival San Benito.
The freshman game will start at 4pm in the Gilroy High School Gym, followed by the junior varsity contest at 5:30pm and the varsity squads taking the court at 7pm.
