The Lady Sparks beat Coyote Creek behind Angel Senoir’s 10 points and Randi Groppe’s six. The Lady Sparks shut down Coyote Creek in the second half with strong defense.

Lady Titans 59, Almaden 12

The Lady Titans’ offense was paced by Lindsey Foster (15 points) and Laura Steele and Megan Wheat, who had strong inside games. Kristin Costa dished out a game-high 12 assists. Defensively, Emily Loera and Elaina Vasquez crashed the boards.

Division I Boys

Mustangs 68, Los Gatos 46

The Gilroy Mustangs defeated Los Gatos Sunday with solid all-around play to improve their record to 5-0. The Mustangs were led by Cameron Yawary (23 pts, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 7 assists), Chris Cantanzaro (15 pts, 8 rebounds, 6 steals), Tyler Price (10 pts, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, steal), Connor Ross (6 pts, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals), Mike Aldridge (6 pts, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, block) and Zack Colton (4 pts, 4 rebounds). The team takes its undefeated record to Willow Glen next weekend.

GHS Girls Freshman Basketball

On Friday, the GHS freshman girls basketball team defeated Alvarez 38-35. Jennifer Rose had a near double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Laura Spellman contributed seven points, five assists and four rebounds. Deanna Martinez chipped in seven points while Kristen Vonderwerth controlled the boards with a team-high 10 rebounds.

Down two players, the Mustangs followed up Friday’s win with another win on Saturday. Behind Kelsey Ramirez’s 17 points and seven rebounds and Spellman’s double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds, the Mustangs pressed their way to a 48-39 victory over Aptos. Rose also grabbed 15 rebounds.

The freshman, JV and varsity squads are back in action Wednesday at home against Notre Dame at 4, 5:30 and 7pm.
