County Roads in Awful

Shape; Who’s Minding the

South County Store?

Dear Editor,

I am writing to complain about the lack of maintenance on our county roads. A few days ago, I was traveling on Oak Glen Avenue west of Morgan Hill, when the vehicle in front of me struck a bunch of limbs that were hanging out into the road. A limb fell and struck my car. That’s when I noticed that several limbs and branches were lying on the road from previous vehicles hitting them and causing them to fall onto the road. This is at Oak Glen Avenue right where the Quail Canyon Inn was. The road maintenance here is a mess. The bushes are protruding out past the the lines into the road.

From Oak Glen Avenue I turned south on Uvas Road. This road was worse. Bushes and branches are sticking out onto the road on both sides of the road. This goes on for miles. These are obstacles just waiting to be hit by cars. What kind of county road maintenance, or lack of, is being done to keep our roads safe?

As a citizen, I know the county must have equipment that can mow into the trees and cut this debris back. At one point, halfway between Oak Glen Avenue and Uvas Dam, there is a pine tree that had fallen down. The tree was cut back to the fog line. There is a solid tree trunk that was left sticking out to the road line just waiting to be hit and damage someone’s vehicle.

My last complaint is Pole Line Road to Mt. Madonna Park. There are so many pot holes and rough road areas between Highway 152 and the pay station, it’s ridiculous. People come from all over the Bay Area to visit this park, and this pot-hole infested area is their first welcome into the park. It’s a disgrace.

As a citizen and country tax payer, I am appalled and irate that whoever is in charge of these roads is not doing their job of seeing that they are properly maintained. Whoever is in charge of these above listed roads does not deserve their paycheck.
