Saturday’s highs reached a record of 102, but no where near the
July 15 record of 115
Gilroy – This summer has sizzled its way to Gilroy in an old school type of way, tying a local record when the mercury hit a high of 102 degrees Saturday – the highest it has been on that date since 1989.

As though seeing the fatigue on the face of many Gilroyans Saturday, the temperatures dropped a dozen degrees Sunday to a balmy, even comfortable 90 degrees. But don’t get too comfortable. If the area ties another record next Saturday, get ready to endure a scorching 115 degrees to echo the record set July 15, 1972.

And, temperatures are expected to cool slightly today and throughout the rest of the week, before climbing back toward the century mark. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday’s highs are expected to only reach the the mid-80s, with lows in the mid-50s.

“Were pretty much approaching the norms. Summer in that area tends to be very warm, within your normal ranges,” said Diana Henderson, weather forecaster.

And, with forecasters calling for temperatures to remain hot – it is summer, remember – be sure to keep that sunscreen handy.
