Final concert of the year
Gilroy – The Gavilan College Choir will be presenting their final concert of the year today. The evening will be a tribute to American Composers of the past century. This will include the music of Aaron Copland, Randall Thompson, Samuel Barber, Jester Hairston, William Dawson, Moses Hogan, Scott Joplin and others. The concert will be in the Gilroy High School Theater at 7:30pm. The 50-voice choir will be singing under the direction of Phillip Robb. Admission is free.
Health day serves more than 500
Gilroy – The Gilroy Community Health Day at Rebekah Childrens Services served 502 people in areas such as diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings, dental exams and nutrition services.
The purpose of the day is to increase access to health and other services for working poor who have no insurance or are underinsured. About 20 doctors providing consultations, mental health. The Mexican consulate was there to answer questions on immigration. In addition, there was plenty of entertainment, including Aztec dancers among others, and raffle prizes throughout the day.
SV Symphony’s final concert of the year
Gilroy – The South Valley Symphony will conclude its 32nd season with their annual POPS concert to be held at the Gavilan College Theater on Friday, June 2, commencing at 8pm. The orchestra will be under the baton of guest Conductor Anthony Quartuccio.
Tickets are now on sale at Porcella’s Music Store located at 7357 Monterey St. and also at Carole’s Hallmark Store located at 779 First St. next to Nob Hill Food Store. Prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors ages 55 and older and $8 for students ages 12 to 18.

Time to ‘Tip a Cop’
Gilroy – Those who have sworn to protect and serve will be taking of the public in a different setting Thursday, when Gilroy’s finest don aprons and wait on tables at Applebees Neighborhood Bar and Grill. Members of the Gilroy Police Department will take orders, serve drinks and deliver food to raise funds to enable local youths to participate in the Special Olympics.
The event takes place from 6 to 9pm, Thursday, at Applebees, 8200 Arroyo Circle.
Rucker open house
Gilroy – The Rucker School GATE staff invite you to their Open House today at 5:30pm. This event is designed for parents considering placement of their potentially GATE-identified children. Rucker School currently offers self-contained GATE classes at the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade levels. Rucker is located at 325 Santa Clara Ave.

Gilroy Relay For Life
Gilroy – Relay For Life fundraiser will be held from noon to 5pm Saturday at Fortino Winery, 4525 Hecker Pass Highway.
Live music featuring ‘Cold Storage’ performing 1 to 4pm. The event will include wine by the glass and barbecue lunch. Fifty percent of all proceeds go to Relay For Life.
