Infant killed in accident
Morgan Hill – A San Jose infant was killed Tuesday morning when a pickup truck crashed into the parked vehicle the baby was riding in on southbound Highway 85.
Haley Backensick – less than a year old, was in her child safety seat when the Dodge Ram struck the 1991 Plymouth Voyager stopped on the right shoulder north of Bernal Road, police said.
Her mother, 23-year-old Krystal Thop suffered a laceration to the head and was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where she was treated and released.
According to California Highway Patrol officials, the driver of the Dodge Ram drifted off the shoulder and struck the van. San Martin resident Marc Stureman, 48, was not arrested, however, the crash is under investigation.
“We’re still investigating whether everybody was properly restrained,” said officer Chris Armstrong. “It’s extremely sad what happened. It definitely hits home when it’s an infant that’s killed.”

Auditions for ‘Temple II’
Gilroy – John Bisceglie is looking for energetic performers, ages 6 to 25, to be a part of his large scale summer musical extravaganza, “Totally Rockin’ Temple of BOOM! II” performing in August. Auditions will be held on Sunday, May 7 at Dutchman’s Pizza, 6940 Chestnut St. Ages 6 to 10 at 1pm and ages 11 to 25 at 2:30pm. Please prepare to sing a short song without music.
