Gilroy – Get ready for food, live music and crafts at Gavilan College’s annual spring festival. And in keeping with the Earth Day theme at this year’s GavFest, the Associated Student Body will distribute a variety of plants and Earth Day co-founder Pete McCloskey will speak.

Festival-goers will be treated to live music playing on two separate stages, a talent show from the performing arts department, arts and crafts fair and soccer tournament. A job fair and GaviLand Kids Area and special tent to welcome alumni, will also blanket the campus.

The children’s section will include a reptile petting zoo, bounce house, information on Gavilan’s child development program and more.

McCloskey, who is also a candidate for congress, will speak at noon on the main stage. Other notable attractions include: the “Watsonville Taiko,” who will perform at 10:30am in the arts quad, “Baile Esperanza” with Mariachi Santa Cecilia at 11am and “The Usual Suspects” at 1pm, both on the main stage and cardboard boat races in the swimming pool at 2pm.

GavFest is a great time for the community to come together and celebrate and for prospective students and their families to learn more about Gavilan College. Future students can visit with representatives from admissions, financial aid and numerous academic departments.

In addition, counselors will provide drop-in assistance for registration. For more information log onto www.gavilan.edu/gavfest.com
