GILROY – Ever wondered how much that antique vase or painting is worth? Take advantage of the great weather this Sunday and head down to the Father’s Day Antiques and Collectibles 2003 Street Fair, where there will be on site appraisers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Joyce Duarte, owner of Monterey Street Antiques, said she is looking forward to seeing all the new vendors this year.

“I am excited about the new vendors involved,” she said. “This is the biggest turnout we’ve had in years.

Dave Peoples, owner of the Nimble Thimble, agrees.

“We are sold out for vendor spots and it is going to be great,” he said. “Bring your dad or your husband down and find him a treasure.”

For those who still haven’t found that special gift for dad, vendors from all over the state will set up shop early at 8 a.m., and shoppers can cruise the tents looking for the special kitchen item, toy or pottery they’ve been searching for until 5 p.m.

“This is the perfect opportunity for people to visit and enjoy the charm of downtown,” said Kirsten Carr, executive director of the Gilroy Visitors Bureau.

Festivities will take place downtown on Monterey Street, between Fourth and Sixth streets. Among other things, furniture, linens, kitchen items, Hummels and glassware will all be on display and admission is free.

Even if antiques aren’t your forte, Tina Riley of Body Matrix will be on site giving massages and sunless tanning demonstrations. The money raised by the massages will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

There will be plenty of parking, food and entertainment. After a long day of browsing items of the past, visitors can enjoy dinner at any of the downtown restaurants, which will all remain open.

Temperatures Sunday will be in the low 80s according to the National Weather Service.
