There isn’t much ordinary citizens can normally do to support serving troops and to show appreciation of veterans of past military service – besides flag decals and sock donations. And with war being fought in Iraq, this year’s observance of Veterans Day has even more meaning.
On Tuesday, the community is invited to gather at the South Santa Clara Valley War Memorial District Building, 74 West Sixth St. at 11:11 a.m. for services. Citizens will have a chance to honor and appreciate those who serve or have served and, especially, those who died serving our country.
Also, Gilroyans can make a patriotic gesture in two other ways this year by contributing to the Gilroy Veterans Flagpole Fund (call 842-4903) and/or the fund to line Monterey Street in downtown Gilroy with American flags on holidays and special occasions (call the Gilroy Exchange Club at 842-0200).
