at the age of 84.
Rosella Belle Fairhurst died in Watsonville on Friday, Oct. 31, at the age of 84.
A native of Montecello, Iowa, Rosella had lived in Gilroy for the past 10 years, moving here from Bakersfield. She received a registered nursing degree from the Cook County Hospital in Chicago in 1942. Mrs. Fairhurst served as a U.S. Navy nurse during World War II, from 1942 to 1949. She nursed at the Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield from 1951 to 1985. She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Oakdale and Lutheran Women’s League. She enjoyed gardening, travel, photography and reading.
Mrs. Fairhurst is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law Greg and Janelle Fairhurst, of Calimesa, and Richard and Betty Fairhurst, of Corralitos. She is also survived by one brother, Albert Siebels of Iowa, and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Fairhurst, a brother Robert Siebels and a sister Josephine Siebels.
The family prefers contributions to the Hospice Caring Project of Santa Cruz County, 6851 Soquel Dr., Aptos, Ca 95003.
Family memorial services were held. Private cremation was held with the Davis Memorial Chapel of Watsonville in charge of arrangements.
