Help feed the elderly

GILROY – Dr. Robert Kovacs and the staff at Gilroy Chiropractic Center, in conjunction with Safeway and the U. S. Army Recruiting Office, will host a food drive on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in front of Safeway, 905 First St. The non-perishable food items that are collected will be donated to the Older Adult Program at Wheeler Manor. Donate toys, food

GILROY – Garlic City Coffee and Tea, 7501 Monterey St., is home to a donation barrel for the Salvation Army. Anyone who brings in nonperishable food or an unwrapped toy will receive a coupon for their next visit. The barrel will be out through Dec. 11. Details: Karen at

Church hosts feast

Don’t miss the game

GILROY – The Gavilan Rams football team will be playing Sierra College in the Capitol Shrine Bowl game on Saturday, Nov. 29, at noon, at Sacramento City College. Tickets are $10 each, a portion of which, when pre-purchased through Gavilan College Athletics, will help to offset the cost of participating in the bowl game. Seeking entries

GILROY – The Gilroy City Chamber of Commerce holds its “Holiday Home Decorating Contest,” on Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 6 to 10 p.m.

Residents within the Gilroy city limits are eligible to decorate their homes and compete for prizes donated by South County Realtors Association. First place receives $75, second place gets $50, third place wins $25, Apartment/Condo winners receive $25 and Neighborhood Consecutive Homes (a four home minimum) winner will get $75.

Entry forms must be received by 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8 to participate. Details:
