Juan H. Dimas passed away in Gilroy on Jan. 27, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Nicolasa Dimas, of Gilroy, his children and their spouses; Elena and Santiago Vasquez of Brownsville, TX, Jovita and Alec R. Martinez of Gilroy, Silvestre Dimas of Fort Worth, TX, and David and Consuelo Dimas of Gilroy. He is the grandfather of, Ruben, Mary, Ramiro, Sonja, and Becky Garza; Daniel, Edward, and Richard Martinez; Rosa, Anna, and Sylvia Dimas; David, Jr, Raul and Ray Dimas, Santiago, Jr., Juana, Micaela, Coy, Joel, Silvestre, and Yolanda Dimas; Gracie, Pedro, Roberto, and Alicia Dimas. He is also survived by 58 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Micaela Dimas; his sons Santiago and Juan Dimas, Jr.; his grandson Ricardo Dimas; and his brother Simon Hernandez.

Mr. Dimas was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and moved to Brownsville, Texas at the age of 5, where he was raised. He came to Gilroy in 1961 and became an American citizen in April of 1997. Mr. Dimas was employed for I.B. Perlich for 15 years building Aristocrat Trailers in Morgan Hill. Mr. Dimas then went to work for Gilroy Foods and retired from there in 1976. He enjoyed parties and dancing. Mr. Dimas was a member of St. Mary Church and served as an church usher for many years.

Vigil Service will be held Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at St. Mary Church. Services will begin on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home and then proceed to St. Mary Church for a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
