It’s ‘Bach to Blues’ time in Gilroy
Gilroy – Local musicians and Gavilan College music faculty members will team up with the South Valley Symphony String Quartet to perform the 2005 benefit concert “Bach to Blues.” Featuring a wide range of musical genres including flamenco, mariachi and opera, the concert will take place at 7:30pm Feb. 25 at the Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. in Gilroy. A preshow begins at 7pm.
Tickets are $15 for general seating, $10 for seniors and students and $25 for V.I.P.
Tickets are sold online at www.gavilan.edu/bachtoblues and in Gilroy at the Gavilan College Box Office and at all South Valley Symphony outlets including the Gavilan College Bookstore, The California Music Company, Porcella’s Music and Carole’s Hallmark. In Morgan Hill, tickets are sold at Gavilan College Morgan Hill and The Music Tree. In Hollister, tickets are sold at Gavilan College Hollister and Dorothy McNett’s Place.

Dine and support Gav women’s athletics
Gilroy – Support women’s athletic programs and attend the Inaugural 2005 “Lady Rams” Luncheon from 12 to 1pm Wednesday at Eagle Ridge Golf Club.
Ms. Janice Richard, Head Women’s Basketball Coach at San Jose State University, will speak.
Tickets are $35 per person. All proceeds go to women’s athletics programs at Gavilan College., which currently offers women’s programs in softball, basketball, and soccer. Under consideration this year is the addition of a women’s volleyball team.

Sunday pet fair is just for the dogs
Gilroy – The Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter is hosting a special Pet Fair just for dogs, Sunday, Feb. 20 and 27, from 11am to 4pm at the Petsmart, Highway 152, in Gilroy.
There are many dogs who need homes and adoptions will be available on sight. If you don’t find a special friend there, you can always stop by the San Martin Animal Shelter, 12370 Murphy Ave., to look at the animals for adoption, play with the homeless dogs and cats and adopt a special friend.
Donations for the shelter are always appreciated. Funds help offset the costs of much needed medical supplies and extra food for the homeless animals.
Donations are tax deductible and can be mailed to: FOSMAS, P.O. Box 526, San Martin, CA 95046. A receipt will be mailed back.
The shelter is open Mondays, and Wednesdays through Sundays, from noon to 5pm.

Dine and dance to benefit youth group
Gilroy – Margaritas, raffle prizes, food and dancing to the music of the ’70s and ’80s will highlight a benefit evening from 6pm to midnight Feb. 26 at Cullen Hall, 11 First Street, for the St. Mary’s Youth Group Mexico Mission Trip. Tickets are $25 and proceeds help fund the annual trip to Mexico, during which students build new homes for residents in some of Tijuana’s poorest neighborhoods.

Gilroy – Community Solutions will host an Interfaith Luncheon focusing on domestic violence prevention on Wednesday, from 11:30am to 1pm at 6980 Chestnut St.
Join Community Solutions in collaborating forces as interfaith leaders and prevention advocates identify strategies for ending domestic violence.
