Registration on for South Valley Children’s Choir

GILROY – The South Valley Children’s Choir will start its eighth session next week. The South Valley Children’s Choir has three choirs to accommodate children from kindergarten through early high school. The Cadet Choir is for girls and boys in grades kindergarten through 2. They meet every Wednesday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., starting on Wednesday, Jan. 15. The Treble Choir is for girls and boys in grades 3 through 5. They meet every Monday from 5 to 6:15 p.m., starting on Jan. 13. The Encore Choir is an auditioned choir for girls in grades 6 through 9 and boys in grades 6 through 9, with unchanged voices. They will meet every Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Auditions for the Encore Choir are on Monday, Jan. 13 at 6:30 pm. All choirs will meet in the choir room at Gilroy High School.

You can register now for the Cadet Choir or the Treble Choir at the Gilroy Community Services Department, 7351 Rosanna St. Registration for these two choirs will continue through Friday, Feb. 7. You can register for the Encore Choir after the auditions on monday, Jan. 13. The cost is $120 for the Cadet Choir, $130 for the Treble Choir and $140 for the Encore Choir. Put your belly into it

GILROY – Gilroy Community Services offers a basic belly dancing class on Saturday mornings beginning Saturday, Jan. 11 through Feb. 22, 10 to 11 a.m., in the Wheeler Community Center dance room. Costuming will also be discussed, and by the end of the session, students will know and be able to perform a routine. Instructor Karri Duke is an award-winning belly dancer receiving the 1991 Ms. America Belly Dance Award. Class fee is $58 (non-resident $63). Learn to craft a bouquet

GILROY – On Saturday, Jan. 18, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Linda Estill, Gilroy Community Services instructor, will present the basics of floral arranging and design. The new class is designed for those who would like to create attractive bouquets and centerpieces using fresh-cut flowers and foliage. Students pay $28 for a class fee (non-residents $33), and an additional $10 the day of class will cover the cost of fresh flowers and foliage, floral foam and a plastic container. GILROY – STAR TV, an after-school performers workshop, is seeking participants for Spring 2003. All talented young actors, singers and dancers, ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in STAR TV Julianne Palma will produce and direct this brand-new, exciting and dynamic kids TV show. The best of the best will be seen on Cable Channel 18. The fee for this class is $225. The class is at Gavilan College TV Studio, LI 140 in Gilroy.
