Caller 1: I just wanted to let you know that I just finished a fantastic book, “Brett Favre, Number Four.” You can get it at Barnes and Noble. It’s a great book for any young athlete to read. I’m not a big Green Bay Packers fan, however, I am a big Brett Favre fan. It was a fantastic book written by himself, his wife, his mother, Terry Bradshaw and some other people involved in the book. It’s a fantastic book for young athletes to read. I couldn’t put the book down. I read it in about two days … it’s good reading material for anyone who likes sports.

Green Phone: Thanks, Caller. Josh Staloch especially likes this call because he IS a huge Green Bay fan. Heck, we’re Green so we feel a little bit of a kinship, too.

Caller 2: Hey, thanks for running those basketball box scores and now the standings.

Green Phone: You’re welcome.

Caller 3: How can Damon Poeter defend Jose Canseco? That money-grubbing has-been … how can anybody believe a word this clown says?

Green Phone: Well, Caller, there’s this little thing that happened, oh, about 200 some-odd years ago. It was called the Enlightenment. It taught us that it’s rational to separate the message from the messenger. Marshall McLuhan complicates things somewhat, but we digress. The point is, let’s examine what the guy writes and his motivation for writing it separately. That said, ESPN.com has done some fact-checking on Canseco’s tell-all memoir and it ain’t pretty. For example, Canseco describes having a conversation with Seattle’s Bret Boone at second base during a spring training game. The problem is, according to ESPN.com, Jose didn’t hit a double or steal a base during the ENTIRE preseason in question. So maybe you’re on to something. But we’ll cling to the faint possibility that a fielder’s choice explains everything.
