Garlicky poets

GILROY – The Garlicky Group of Poets will hold its monthly open poetry reading on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 3:30 p.m. in the Gilroy Public Library meeting room. Public participation is welcome and the event is free.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Reunion

GILROY – Don’t miss “Rock ‘n’ Roll Reunion,” a singing and dancing tribute to the ’50s and ’60s. The show is a presentation of John Bisceglie and the City of Gilroy Community Services Department. The annual Children’s Summer Theater production will take place tonight through Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Gilroy High School Theater, 750 W. 10th St.

Showtimes are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 each, and proceeds benefit Kids Discover Art 2004. Details: 846-8836.

Wise Monkey plays

Voter registration drive

GILROY – Gilroy First! will hold a registration drive kick-off event on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit their tables in front of Wal-Mart, PW, Nob Hill and Safeway to register, help others register and learn more about Gilroy issues. Volunteers will also help people apply for a permanent absentee ballot.

School shopping spree

Make a furry friend

GILROY – The Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter (FOSMAS) need help finding loving families for more than 300 homeless companion animals currently at the Shelter and in foster homes. ‘It’s showtime’

GILROY – The South Valley Business Showcase will debut on Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Historic Strand Theater. “It’s Showtime” will feature the latest in products and services to thousands of potential customers under one roof. A “mixer” will also feature samplings of local restaurants and wineries. All booths cost $350, $500 for non-Gilroy Chamber members.
