Tournament at Christmas Hill Park.
GILROY – Team Talamo powered past Aztlan 21-8 Sunday to earn the championship of the 18th annual Men’s D Garlic Festival Softball Tournament at Christmas Hill Park.
Raul Bueno singled and doubled in a 13-run sixth inning to clinch the title for the Gilroy-based squad. Art Del Valle went 4-for-4 and scored four runs, while Bobby Garcia posted a home run, three doubles and seven RBI for the champions.
Aztlan sent the Sanger Dukes home with a third-place award by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete an 11-10 decision over the former champion. Joel Gaeta hit a double and triple, Daniel Vasquez a double and two-singles for the second-place team in the six-team event.
The Slammers moved to 3-1 and into second place in the Men’s EE League action Thursday with a 15-6 decision over South Valley Newspapers. David Espinoza cracked two home runs and Joe Duran accounted for four hits for the Slammers. Dave Stephenson homered and Zeb Carabello added a double and single for the Newsmen.
Radiator Doctor is 3-1 behind 3-0 HMI after a 35-8 nod over Associated Concrete. Scott Larsen drilled five hits and Jerry Johnston homered for the Doctor. Russ Nyberg powered three hits for Associated Concrete.
George Ocampo drove in five runs to propel VFW Bingo by the Good Ole Boys 18-7. Gabe Sandoval homered in a four-RBI effort for the winners. Mill Miller and John Medeiros each collected three hits for the Good Ole Boys.
