MORGAN HILL – The Mustang diamondmen put even more of a scare into the front-runner Live Oak Acorns in Friday’s road clash – but five errors erased their one-run lead and opened the door for a 5-2 league loss.

Gilroy scored first off Live Oak flame-thrower Ryan Muller in the second inning as seniors John Kirkish and Eric Gonzalez were both hit by a pitch – setting the stage for Ruben Chavez’s RBI single.

Live Oak retaliated with three runs in the bottom half of the inning – which included three Mustang errors.

After the Acorns added on two insurance runs for a four-run spread, Gilroy scored a second run in the seventh frame as Gonzalez scored on an overthrow into centerfield.

The Mustangs open the week with Monday’s non-league clash against Lynbrook and then face Terra Nova on Thursday as well as Leland on Friday both at PAL Stadium in San Jose.
