Frieda M. Glawatz died on Aug. 29 at the age of 93.

A longtime resident of Sunnyvale, she moved to Gilroy in 2000 to be closer to her family. She was the second of nine children who grew up on a farm in Nebraska.

She was an elementary school teacher, bookkeeper, accountant and worked as the General’s secretary in the War Department of the Pentagon.

She enjoyed baking, gardening, quilting, doing daily word jumbles and reading.

She was also an active member of the Gilroy Library Book Club and the library’s summer reading for grown-ups program.

Her family includes children, Leonard and Linda Glawatz, daughter-in-law Nancy, granddaughter Rebecca, all of Gilroy, sister Leona Schoch of Missouri and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 125 East Arques Ave. in Sunnyvale today at 11 a.m.

Donations may be given to St. Mark Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
