Dear Editor:
This letter is directed to Connie Gallegos.
I am Dion Bracco’s mother. Since you know so much about the other candidates I would like to tell you about my son.
Dion was born in Gilroy at the old Wheeler hospital. He has lived here all his life. His grandparents came here from Italy in the 1930s. They operated a vegetable market on Swanston lane until 1980. They delivered fruits and vegetables to most businesses in and around Gilroy – also to the hospital. Dion always helped them. He also picked prunes and walnuts for his great grandfather Angelo Mangano Sr.
He started his towing business with one truck. He now has grown to 12 trucks. He is very active in South Valley Community Church, especially with the youth group.
He has been involved with the Gilroy police DARE program, Gilroy Gang Task Force, Gilroy PAL, Gilroy High School Sober Grad Night, The Lord’s Table, City Team, The Optimists, The Memorial Parade, The Gilroy Garlic Festival, Gilroy Exchange Club, and many more charities and programs in Gilroy.
As a Gilroy resident for 50 years, now I will tell you my choices. Al Pinheiro for mayor. He is a long-standing pillar in our community. For city council my son, of course, also Russ Valiquette, and Bruce Morasca.
Unlike your candidates I believe my choices have NO special interests other than the good of Gilroy.
Betty Bracco McCarn, Gilroy
