Youth orchestra kicks off season two

– The South Valley Youth Orchestra begins its second season on
Tuesday, Sept. 9, with its first rehearsal under new conductor,
Joey Fortino. Fortino, the band director at Gilroy High School,
joins the SVYO as its second conductor.

GILROY – The South Valley Youth Orchestra begins its second season on Tuesday, Sept. 9, with its first rehearsal under new conductor, Joey Fortino. Fortino, the band director at Gilroy High School, joins the SVYO as its second conductor.
The orchestra will rehearse from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Gilroy High band room. Prospective musicians, ages 10 to 19 should call for an audition appointment. All orchestral instruments are needed.
A holiday concert and an end-of-the-year concert will be held this season. Vince Gomez, who helped the orchestra get off the ground in 2002, will assist this season as a “conductor emeritus.”

Patriot Day ahead
MORGAN HILL – The second annual Patriot’s Day celebration commemorating the events of Sept. 11, 2001, will be held at the Outdoor Amphitheater at the Morgan Hill Community Center, Dunne Avenue at Monterey Road at noon Thursday, Sept. 11.
The event is sponsored by the City of Morgan Hill and the names of serving members of the Armed Forces will be published in the program. Forward such names to Anthony Eulo, City of Morgan Hill, 779-7247.
