Christmas Hill Park.
GILROY – Cosa Nostra took a two-game lead in the Men’s Winter E League pennant race Tuesday with a 6-4 edging of the Boss Hawgs at Christmas Hill Park.
Eddie Adame scored two runs and Armando Hernandez drove in two runs as Cosa Nostra improved to 5-0 with three games left on the regular-season schedule. The Boss Hawgs slipped to 3-2 and into a tie for second with the Slammers.
Manuel Rodriquez, Manny Juarez, Sam Juarez and Vince Quiroz each netted two hits for the Boss Hawgs.
Consecutive hits from Maciel Urinda, Jesse Marquez and Art Mancera accounted for two runs in the top of the seventh inning as the Slammers defeated the Covenant Builders 13-12.
Mancera drilled three doubles and Urinda scored four runs. Tommy Banuelos went 4-for-4 and scored five Covenant runs. Brian Moreno went 4-for-4, Jose Villarreal 4-for-5 for the Builders.
VFW Bingo pushed across seven runs in the seventh inning to pull out a 19-14 win over Blackout Window Tinting. Gabe Sandoval completed a 5-for-5 night with a two-run single in the Bingo seventh. Matt McKay lined four hits and Romero Marshall homered for VFW Bingo. Ruben Guerrero and Jason Corral each went 4-for-4 for Blackout Window Tinting.
Dee’s Nuts handed the VFW Vets a second consecutive loss Tuesday at Las Animas Park, creating a six-team logjam for supremacy in the Men’s C League.
Six Dee’s batters collected two hits as the Nuts rallied past VFW Vets 7-5. Ricardo Lopez led the Dee’s assault with two doubles. Jerry Nelson collected two of the seven Vets hits.
The loss left the Vets at 4-2, with three teams at 3-3 and two at 2-4 with two games to play before the post-season begins next month.
The Las Animas Sweepers scored eight runs in the sixth inning to turn back Guy’s Heating and Air Conditioning 12-10. Brian Cortez hit a three-run home run and Donnie Gooding followed with a homer in the Sweeper sixth. Kevin orsco went 3-for-3, Mitch Pierce 3-for-4 for the winners. Joe Laredo and Rick Trujillo each went 3-for-4 for Guy’s (3-3).
The Good Fellas struck for seven runs in the first inning on the way to a 15-6 decision over the Playaz. Joe Ojeda went 5-for-5, Gabriel Duenas went 3-for-4 and Cameron Bautista hit a three-run homer for the Good Fellas. Daniel DeLeon drove in four Playaz runs with a homer, single and sacrifice fly.
