point total through the first eight games in a 70-54 victory over
Livermore in the second round of the Seaside Sweet 16
tournament.
The Gilroy High girls varsity basketball team continued its stellar start to the season Tuesday night, producing its highest point total through the first eight games in a 70-54 victory over Livermore in the second round of the Seaside Sweet 16 tournament.

“I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how quickly they have come together as a team,” GHS head coach Tim Jones said. “They have a adjusted to some of the changes we made from last year.”

The Mustangs are 7-1 on the year, their only blemish coming in a six-point loss to Mountain View.

An ideal start to Tuesday’s contest catapulted GHS to a 21-5 lead after the first quarter. The Mustangs duplicated their offensive output in the second quarter to stake to a 42-24 halftime lead.

“We were really rolling offensively,” Jones said. “They were really confident on the offensive side of the court and that got us off to the start that we needed. And we played pretty much even with them in the second half to maintain that lead.”

Ashlee Williams posted a team-high 18 points and Chelsea Hill recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Michelle Sosa hit here season scoring average on the head, contributing 13 points in shooting 67 percent from the field. Five other Mustangs recorded at least two points, including Ashley Lambert who had eight.

GHS continues tournament play tonight at 8 p.m. at Seaside High School.
