New zero emission buses coming
San Jose – On Monday, the Valley Transportation Authority will introduce three zero-emission buses on two of its bus routes in San Jose.
A zero-emission bus runs on hydrogen and emits no harmful pollutants into the atmosphere. The engine operates on a fuel-cell, a device that converts hydrogen gas and oxygen from the air into electricity, heat and water.
“VTA appreciates that building an infrastructure that promotes the use of alternative fuels, like hydrogen, is an investment for our future,” said San Jose City Councilman and VTA Board Member David Cortese of the $18.5 million, three-year pilot program. “[This] project can serve to prove that truly clean alternative fuel solutions are not so far from becoming a reality.”
