Communities United in Prevention Youth Advocates at Gilroy High School are encouraging parents to pledge to host alcohol-free graduation celebrations.
Gilroy’s Social Host Ordinance fines adults up to $2,000 for serving underage drinkers at house parties. The Youth Advocates’ campaign targets graduation weekend and aims to raise community awareness that police will actively cite adults who violate the ordinance.
This is the second year the Youth Advocates have initiated the campaign, which included a poster design contest. This year’s winner was Josh Moralez, a GHS senior. Second place went to Ruben Ortega and third place went to Danny Antl.
