There are 52 species of mosquitoes in California, according to the Alameda County Abatement District (mosquitoes.org). They have different eating habits. Some feast on humans. Some don’t. Some come out at night and some during the day.
Rick Smith, the general manager of Eagle Ridge, said he was surprised to hear about your concern because he hasn’t received any complaints.
“I checked with the golf course superintendent, and he says – and I agree – we have had fewer mosquitoes this year than in years past,” he said. “This is the first year I can remember not having a mosquito bite.”
The Santa Clara County Vector Control District also made a visit to Eagle Ridge and didn’t notice any mosquitoes breeding there, said technician Victor Romano.
The last time the district received a call about mosquitoes at Eagle Ridge was in 2004, he said.
You can report mosquitoes to Vector Control at 918-4770, and they will take a look at it, Moreno said. He encouraged people to be as specific as possible, including time, location and what they observed.
