Each year before graduation, The Dispatch profiles a few
outstanding soon-to-be Gilroy High School graduates. The students
are selected with input from the GHS staff as representative of the
best Gilroy has to offer. We salute them, their families and all
the graduating seniors in the Class of 2005 for their
accomplishments. Well done. Best wishes for a fulfilling and
productive future.

Since junior year, Amy Kishimura has struggled with the decision of where to go for college and what to study. With just days left of her high school career, Kishimura has four successful years behind her and four more filled with environmental science ahead.
After debating between the University of California, Davis, and Cal
Poly, San Luis Obispo, she chose Cal Poly because of its strong
agricultural program.
She made the decision after taking Advanced Placement Environmental Science.
“It’s really an eye opener,” she said. “You just realize all of your actions really do have consequences.”
Kishimura is a member of the Eco Club where members are in charge of recycling at Gilroy High School. She is also the design editor for Art Lit Magazine on campus and a member of Interact Club, a community service organization.
And to top it off – Kishimura is a member of the GHS Golf team.
At Senior Awards Night Tuesday, she received about $5,000 in scholarships from the Governor’s Scholar Award, South County Service Group, Gilroy Chamber of Commerce and the Myrle Wolfe Memorial Scholarship.
“Schoolwork is my biggest priority,” Kishimura said. “It always gets done first. It’s just something I’ve been trained to do.”
That doesn’t mean it always gets done in a timely fashion.
“I’m a procrastinator,” she said. “It’s the one thing I’ve never learned from.”
The middle child of three girls, she has tried to follow in the footsteps of her older sister. She finished in the top 15 of her class at GHS.
“I’ve had something to live up to,” she said.
Kishimura finished in the top five.
