SALINAS – For the second consecutive Tri-County Athletic league tournament, the Gilroy High boys golf team carded a season-low, this time posting a 212 to place fourth at the seventh and final tournament of the regular season at Salinas Fairways on Thursday afternoon.

Unlike last week when the Mustangs took second with a 219, the rest of the field played just as solid, leaving GHS in the fourth position behind Palma (180), San Benito (198) and Alvarez (209).

“We played well, but everyone else did too,” head coach Jared Gamble said. “So that was a bummer.”

Alex Siao posted a team-low 38, Wesley Theigles carded a 41 and both Mitch Goldsmith and Tommy Cox produced a 42 – a season-low for Cox. Corey Gowan finished his round with a 49, and Phillip Gundy, who moved up from the JV team to fill a void, shot a 54.

The Mustangs currently sit in fourth place in the overall league standings, just three points behind Alvarez for third.

“That is easily reachable,” Gamble said.

The Mustangs will have a chance to eclipse the Eagles at the TCAL finals on May 1 at Quail watch Golf Course.
