SALINAS – A five-run fifth inning by Notre Dame proved to be insurmountable for the GHS softball team in a 6-1 loss Thursday afternoon in Tri-Country Athletic League action in Salinas.
The Lady Mustangs (9-5, 3-1 TCAL) took a 1-0 lead in the second but the Spirits (11-3, 3-1 TCAL) responded in their half of the inning to tie the game.
“It’s only one loss in league,” manager Julie Berggren said. “It’s not the end of our season.”
GHS doesn’t play again until Thursday when it will welcome North Salinas in a TCAL contest.
GHS baseball bests Corona High to finish tourney 2-2
After an unfavorable start to its week down in Southern California, the GHS baseball team weathered two losses to open the OC Nissan Select Invitation, ending up with two straight victories to close out its stay.
The Mustangs defeated Corona 14-3 on Wednesday, missing out on the consolation final only due to the number of runs they scored throughout the four games.
“That first game killed us,” manager Johnny Ramirez said of his team’s 20-5 loss in the first game of the tourney. “But you know what, it was so great to see them compete after that. This week brought us together as a family. I’m really pleased with how they played.”
Sophomores Jordan Dexter and Bubu Garcia, along with senior Jordan Holler, were named to the All-Tournament team.
Dexter went 6 for 14 with four RBI, Garcia collected six RBI and Holler ripped off 13 stolen bases, in the four games.
GHS took down Yorba Linda 6-0 behind a Taylor Chris one-hit gem Tuesday.
