SAN JOSE – Twenty-six runs, three hours and no winner.

Both teams’ offenses were in full swing so it was only fitting that the Gilroy High and Homestead baseball clubs closed out their respective stays at the Lions Easter Tournament with a 13-13 tie in the consolation game Friday afternoon in San Jose.

The Mustangs trailed 13-8 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but as they had done throughout the entire game, they began to chip away at the lead, and eventually tied things.

However, the game had already exceeded the 2 hour and 30 minute tournament time limit and ended without a winner after six innings.

Along with the combined 26 runs, the two heavy-hitting teams pounded out a total 20 hits, 10 of them by Gilroy batters.

Matt Elston drove in the game-tying run with a sharp, bouncing single into right field, plating Neal Dinsmore.

Eric Vegas (2-for-3), Jordan Holler, Taylor Chris (two-run home run), Bubu Garcia, Brent Newton, Jordan Dexter, Dinsmore and Elston picked up the hits for Gilroy, who open up the week-long OC Invitational in Los Angeles on Saturday.
