Morgan Hill – The only person injured in an eight-car collision at 6:49 a.m. Thursday on northbound U.S. 101 near the Bernal Road exit was released from the hospital the same day.

The accident kept traffic at a standstill for about an hour Thursday morning. Only minor injuries were reported, according to California Highway Patrol officer Jaime Rios, and he said from what he could tell all vehicles were passenger cars.

The accident was caused by a driver driving too fast for the conditions, according to the CHP.

Following the accident, four lanes on northbound U.S. 101 were “backed up pretty bad” from Bernal to the Cochrane Road exit, Rios said. At 7:34 a.m. three lanes were reopened and at 8:12 a.m. all lanes were opened, though some drivers chose to detour using Monterey Highway causing extra congestion during the school and work commute in Morgan Hill Thursday.
