CHS varsity girls took Leigh High School to the brink but came
up just short in a 3-2 loss.
GILROY – The Christopher Cougars girls varsity volleyball team got as close to a victory as a team can get with out actually securing the win, dropping a five-set marathon (20-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-21, 18-20) to visiting ‘A’ Division Leigh High School on Tuesday night in Gilroy.
Down two-sets-to-one the Cougars fended off defeat, capturing a fourth-set win to send the contest into a fifth-and-deciding set where the Longhorns eventually put the match away.
“Overall the girls played really well,” head coach Sam Navarez said.
The loss moves the Cougars’ record to 1-1 in the early portion of the season.
CHS picked up a 3-1 triumph over Sequoia last Thursday.
The Cougars are back on the court today against Everett Alvarez in a non-league match at 6:30 p.m. at CHS.
