GILROY—Dogs and cats are free to adopt at the San Martin Animal Shelter and others throughout the Bay area on Saturday, Aug. 15 as part of a movement to “clear the shelters,” according to a press release from Santa Clara County. Adoption fees, which normally exceed $90, will be waived entirely to encourage residents to select their furry friends from local shelters and provide them with permanent, loving homes.
The San Martin Animal Shelter, located at 12370 Murphy Ave., will be open from noon to 5 p.m. during the Clear the Shelters event. Gilroy’s Petco, located at 8767 San Ysidro Road, will also be participating and facilitating cat adoptions between 1 and 5 p.m, according to the release. Dogs will not be available at Petco, however they will be at the San Martin Animal Shelter.
All animals that pass through the shelter are either spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, given all age-appropriate vaccines and are de-wormed. The regular adoption fees at the shelter are $90 for cats, $100 for kittens under 4 months old, $110 for dogs and $120 for puppies.
For more information on the event, call the San Martin Animal Shelter at (408) 686-3900. A full list of participating shelters in Santa Clara County can be found below.
