GILROY—The Gilroy Junior All Stars team won the Northern California Junior Softball Tournament on July 12 and secured their spot in the Western Regionals Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
Since the tournament starts today, the Garlic City girls had a little more than a week to secure the $30,000-plus needed to make the trip. And Dutchman’s Pizza in Gilroy stepped into help.
The eatery, located at 6940 Chestnut St., donated 20 percent of its’ profits from July 18 and 19 to the All Stars to help fund their travel expenses. The girls also had a yard sale, raised $1,275 through a GoFundMe page and recycled to raise as much money as possible before heading to Arizona.
Gilroy will represent Northern California in the Western Regionals Tournament and will play its first game at 7:30 p.m. today against Sunnyside Little League, the Arizona champs.
